Association Collegium Pro Musica

The Collegium Pro Musica Association has its premises in the city of Genoa and promotes activities aimed to regenerate and enliven the art and culture, with particular reference to the classical and ancient music.

Since 1990 until now, the artistic direction of the Collegium Pro Musica distinguished itself for having supervised the artistic coordination of many concert events. As far as its first years of activity are concerned, we can mention: Musica Antica nei Chiostri (Ancient Music in cloisters, Genoa, 1990), the baroque music section of The International Festival of Baroque Arts (Rome, Genoa and Siracusa, 1991) and the classical music section of the Mediterranean Festival (Genoa, 1992, 1993 and 1994). In 1993, the Association has finally been founded and from that time on, it has fully managed both the organizational and the artistic aspects of the events promoted.

The International Festival of Chamber Music (formerly named as “I Concerti dell’Ateneo” and then “Genova Musica Antica”) is the concert event that the Collegium Pro Musica Association has been promoting for many years: launched in 1994, dedicated to the great chamber music with a special predilection for the baroque and classical repertoire, it is the most important summer event of classical music in Genoa. Since the 2000, the Festival takes place also in the town of Savona.

The concert activity of the Association does not end in the city of Genoa or in the region of Liguria. Since the 2001, the Collegium Pro Musica has been organizing in the city of Turin another important event, named as “Le Vie del Barocco” (The Baroque Ways), a cycle of concerts dedicated to the music repertoire of the XVII and XVIII centuries.

Although the concert activity of the Association is more intense in summer, we have already been proposing music even in autumn and winter for a few years. This is also because of the frequent requests received by the public. In 2000/2001 and in 2003 we have therefore organized in Genoa the cycle “Note d’Inverno/Inverno Musicale” (Winter notes/ Musical Winter), whereas since 2003/2004 the “Concerti nei Palazzi e nelle Chiese” (Concerts in the Palaces and in the Churches), formerly named “Concerti a Palazzo”, in collaboration with the Gigi Ghirotti Association.

These events were all organized with the support and sponsoring of important authorities such as the Region of Liguria, the Municipality of Genoa, the Municipality of Turin, the Municipality of Savona, the Province of La Spezia, the Province of Savona and some private organizations such as ERG S.p.A, Reale Mutua Assicurazioni, Compagnia di S.Paolo, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Genova e Imperia, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Savona.

Active also from a music teaching point of view, the Collegium has organized Annual Courses (in 1996 at the G. Costa Foundation in Genoa) and seminars on the renaissance and the baroque performing practice. The Collegium Pro Musica Association is the organizer of the International Courses “NerviMusei in Musica”, which since 2004 take place in the Parks of Genova-Nervi. Since 2006 the Collegium attends also to the art direction of the Ancient Music Courses of Monte San Savino (Arezzo, Tuscany).

The Association supports the homonymous musical group Collegium Pro Musica, which has a very intense concert and recording activity at a national, European and American level and which has realized – obtaining enthusiastic reviews from the European and American critique -, various recordings for Dynamic, Nuova Era and Tactus labels. Some recordings have come out as a free CD enclosed to some of the most important italian musical magazines, such as CD CLASSICS and the prestigious AMADEUS.
